Instagram Chief Faces Backlash

Adam Mosseri, you may have heard about him, he is the head of Facebook’s Instagram service. Recently because of an awkward thing he did, he came under a flurry of criticism.

This happened on Thursday where he made the mistake of comparing the value of social networks in society to that of cars. The comparison seems weird in the first place. But he did make it and it was very weird which made people angry and they started to criticize him.

“We know very well about the fact that more people die than would otherwise because of car accidents, but by and large we can conclude that cars would create way more value in the world than they are doing to destroy,” Mosseri said this Wednesday when he was on the Recode Media podcast. “And I think social media is very similar to that.”

Instagram Chief Faces Backlash

The comment had been made because of particular reasons, obviously, everyone is doing something for a reason, so this comment came after a series of reports that had been given by  The Wall Street Journal. The report came out recently and this week only. It had been based on internal Facebook files that are exclusive.

The report that we have mentioned revealed that Facebook has repeatedly found out about the fact that it’s Instagram app is very harmful and had been causing some serious problems to teenagers.

Among the findings that had been given by the report, it had been found that there was an internal presentation that said 32% of teen girls have said that felt very negative and sad about their bodies when they have been on Instagram.

Mosseri’s comparison of Instagram to cars has been as a result that came after the report. This is why there had been a lot of problems. We understand that the comment was made to defend Instagram but it had backfired. Some people said that it’s like comparing it to drugs.

“Absolutely not, and I will definitely and absolutely not agree with the comparison that had been made to drugs or cigarettes, which no upsides at all,” Mosseri said.

Numerous Twitter accounts have criticized this and it had been a whole new world where some people are making jokes about it and some people are talking and some are downright angry at the comment. So with this mixed response, we are going to bring this to a close. What are your opinions on this subject?
